Euro 2020 postponed, Champions and Europa League dates changed

Euro 2020 postponed, Champions and Europa League dates changed

With the football world in a complete standstill amid the worldwide coronavirus outbreak, UEFA along with its 55 member associations and various other representatives made the determination this morning via teleconference, that this year’s European Championship would be postponed and moved to the Summer of 2021.

The Euro’s were originally scheduled to be played following the conclusion of the domestic football seasons and various European tournaments this Summer, but they will now take place between June 11 to July 11, 2021.

Euro 2020 was due to start on June 12 in Rome and finish at Wembley exactly a month later and take place across 12 different cities in a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the competition.

The move to next year now gives clubs and league the flexibility to finish their domestic seasons as well as the Champions League and Europa League tournament, which are also suspended due to the virus outbreak.

The Champions League final in Istanbul has also been moved from May 30 to June 27 and the Europa League final has also been shifted from May 27 to June 24, according to Spanish outlet Marca.

UEFA didn’t say if Euro 2021 would take place in the original venues that were scheduled to host matches this year or be moved to a different location.
