While most of the transfer talk for Manchester United has centered around the Bruno Fernandes saga, one surprise report has flown under the radar. According to The Daily Record, United have apparently made an offer of £25m for rising star Jude Bellingham in an attempt to lure him away from current club Birmingham.
Jude has become a regular starter for Birmingham at the age of 16 and recently, United have focused recruitment efforts on younger, UK-born footballers as part of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward’s much-heralded “cultural reboot” of the club.
Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund have all been linked to the teenager but United hope to convince Bellingham that Old Trafford is the best place to develop his career.
United’s Assistant Coach Mike Phelan has watched Bellingham in action for Birmingham in the Championship, where the teenager has scored three times in 23 matches this season. Bellingham has been at Birmingham since the under-8 level and became the club’s youngest-ever player when he started the EFL Cup tie away to Portsmouth on August 6 last year.
Bellingham remains on scholar’s wages of £145-per-week and the rumored offer from United — along the lines of £25m after the initial payments and various add-ons are calculated — is likely to include a significant pay raise.
