United in talks to sign Bruno Fernandes

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it very clear on several occasions that he does not expect many incomings or outgoings with three weeks until the winter transfer window closes.

With that being said, transfer target and out of favor Sporting Lisbon forward Bruno Fernandes, his agents, Frederico Varandas (Sporting president) & Hugo Viana (Sporting director) were rumored to be at United’s London office on Friday with Manchester United executives Ed Woodward and Matt Judge negotiating Fernandes’s transfer to United.

Solskjaer and assistant coach Mike Phelan watched Fernandes’s match on Sunday in Portugal and when asked about the possibility of a January transfer, Solskjaer, as usual, didn’t exactly confirm or deny that United were watching Fernandes.

“There is a lot of speculation all the time about us going to watch matches,’ he said. ‘Where I have been and when I have been somewhere is irrelevant. He is another player at a different club who I can’t speak about.”

According to The Athletic, while last summer’s reports of United’s interest in Fernandes were exaggerated by sources close to the player, a deal in January is now a strong possibility.

Fernandes has already scored 12 goals this campaign on the back of notching 27 last season and is regarded as one of the best talents in the Portuguese league. If signed, Fernandes could provide an immediate impact on a United team that has some of its best players on the injured list.

The asking price for the 25-year-old is estimated around £55-65m and United are looking to sign the Portuguese midfielder until 2025.
