Harry Maguire set for extended injury absence

The news just isn’t getting better for Manchester United. Fresh off a 3-1 defeat at home to rivals Manchester City last night, it has just been reported that Harry Maguire will be out of action for an extended period of time with a newly discovered torn hip muscle.

Maguire sustained the injury in the goalless FA Cup third round draw with Wolves on Saturday but played on for the remainder of the match, which at the time was thought to be an ankle injury, making his hip problem even worse.

The defender failed a fitness test at the last minute for the League Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester City and could be out for the rest of the month.

When asked about the injury news, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “We don’t know – it’s not going to be a long, long, long-term one,” about Maguire’s injury and he will hope the England international can return as swiftly as possible.

With Scott McTominay, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly, and Paul Pogba out for a few more weeks, Marcos Rojo being linked to a January transfer, Phil Jones also possibly injured, and Chris Smalling still on loan, United are in dire need of backline and midfield help and are possibly considering loan options to finish the season.
